Background and Experience

Cindy started her business in 1998 to provide marketing consulting services to a variety of Tucson companies and not-for-profit organizations. As her diverse background shows, she brings a rich expertise in business strategy, marketing research, marketing management, advertising and public relations to each client's challenges and opportunities.

In 1997 she joined VisionQuest as Director of Program Development. While there she organized business development functions and procedures, working with staff throughout the country. Her work was instrumental in securing a $22 million contract for VisionQuest with the State of Oklahoma. After leaving her staff position, Cindy continued to consult with VisionQuest on the preparation of proposals.

She was one of the founding principals of LP&G, Inc. Her vision of integrated marketing services set LP&G apart from the traditional advertising agencies and public relations firms operating in Tucson. From its inception in 1993, Cindy served as Treasurer and Director of Account Service, growing the firm to annual billings of $1.5 million when she left in late 1996.

In 1992, after five years of intensive community service work, Cindy began part-time marketing and public relations consulting work and formulating plans for what would become LP&G.

Cindy was also a principal of Godwin & Sarlat Public Relations, Inc. where she served as Executive Vice President from 1983 to 1987. While working with Gladys Sarlat, she broadened the scope of services offered and spurred annual income to double.

Cindy moved to Tucson in 1980 and joined Nordensson Advertising and Public Relations as Marketing Director. She soon became Vice President of Account Service, overseeing all client contact and supervising a staff of three account managers. She left Nordensson to take an ownership position in Gladys Sarlat Public Relations.

From 1978 to 1980, Cindy was a Product Advertising Manager and then Senior Research Associate for Ross Laboratories, a division of Abbott Laboratories. She developed and managed all advertising and sales promotion programs for several nationally distributed products, including Similac® Infant Formula. She was selected by the president of Ross to join a special task force created to deal with issues related to the sale of infant formula in Third World countries.

From 1976 to 1978, she served as Advertising and Sales Promotion Specialist for the MHDS Division of Informatics, Inc., a computer service bureau for wholesale distributors (which is now part of Sterling Software). She wrote operating unit business plans and managed all division sales promotion and public relations activities.

Cindy began her career with an architectural and planning firm that became part of NBBJ, the fifth largest architectural practice in the world. During her five years with the firm, she trained with Weld Coxe & Associates, implemented the first comprehensive marketing program by conducting original market research, and developed a system for sales contacts.

Cindy earned her BA in English at Ohio Wesleyan University. Formerly a member of the Public Relations Society of America and its Counselors Academy, she participated in the first Professional Management School sponsored by that organization. She is a long-standing member of the American Marketing Association, and has served on the board of the Greater Tucson Chapter of the AMA.

Her involvement in the community has always been a priority. She currently serves on the Advisory Council of the Tucson Museum of Art and the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, Old Pueblo Division. She is a recipient of the Time, Focus and Feeling national award of the American Heart Association for her extensive involvement at the local, regional and national level. Former community service includes work for the Assistance League of Tucson, ADAPTS, Tucson Festival Society, American Cancer Society, Soroptimist International of Desert Tucson, Ronald McDonald House, Junior League of Tucson, the Arthritis Foundation and volunteer organizations associated with the Catalina Foothills School District.
